The
annual Get Up +Go programme, hosted by City of Edinburgh
Council, brings together under one banner an outstanding
network of organisations and community groups working
with older people. The climax of each year’s programme
is the Get Up +Go awards which seeks to recognise and
reward all the hard work undertaken across the city with
regards to improving the lives of our older citizens.
ACE IT were delighted to be nominated for this year’s
awards by Evelyn Harrison, a former participant of the
basic computer training course, who has recently been
undertaking the more advanced training sessions provided
at the new ACE IT computer suite on Edinburgh’s famous
George Street.
“I can best express my appreciation and admiration for
the work of ACE IT by referring to my own experiences of
their training programme.” Evelyn said as part of her
nomination. “It proved to be a special blend of
encouragement and support, and an orderly presentation
of information with opportunities to consolidate new
skills, all greatly enhanced with touches of humour, and
unfailing patience and courtesy.”

ACE IT Chief Executive Jenny Ridge attended the award
ceremony, which was held at the Harvey Nichols store in
St Andrew Square.
“The awards are an important part of Edinburgh’s
community services social calendar.” Said Jenny.
“Not only do the nominations reflect the importance of
the programme in delivering services to the 50+ age
group but it is also a great opportunity to meet up and
network with friends and colleagues from other groups
and organisations working with the same aims and
objectives – To encourage and engage with older people
across the capital.”
On the night ACE IT were selected as winners of the
‘Products and/or Services that make a Difference’
category. Other winners included ‘Ageing Well’ and ‘New
Spin’ both of which received ‘Outstanding Contribution’
awards. Councillor Deidre Brock, the city’s culture and
leisure leader, said “Edinburgh is home to some truly
inspirational individuals and groups who devote huge
amounts of time and energy towards making older peoples’
lives better and helping them to overcome the many
barriers they face.”
