CONTACT THE ELDERLY - EDINBURGH ARTS GROUP

Would you like to make new friends within a small group?
Contact
the Elderly is a national charity that provides companionship for older
people who live alone. The Edinburgh Arts Group is one of the charity’s
groups and consists of about 6 older people, aged over 70 and living alone,
with volunteer drivers and helpers. The group meets together to visit one of
Edinburgh’s Galleries, Museums or other venues one Sunday afternoon each
month. There is time for a cup of tea and a blether. The group started last
May and now everyone feels like real friends. We have one or two vacancies
at present.
Joining a contact group gives you an outing to look forward to and a chance
to make friends. There are no charges. You will be collected by car,
normally by the same person each month, and you only have to walk to the car
and for a short distance within the venue. All have ground floor facilities
or lifts but there may be a few steps to the front door. The group spends
about 2 hours in the venue, so the whole outing might take 3 to 4 hours. The
drive usually takes 25 to 45 minutes.
These outings are designed for people who live on their own and have few or
no friends or relatives living nearby. If you would appreciate getting out,
or know someone who might, please contact us [see email address at bottom of
page or ring Contact the Elderly Freephone number 0800 716543].
Once we have your details, we will contact you and may come and visit to
explain the outings in more detail. If there is a waiting list for a place
in our group we will let you know.
