This Report tells the
story of a unique project which brings
the world of 21st century
technology into the lives of residents
in care homes. These two worlds are
normally a great distance apart, but the
case studies related here demonstrate
clearly that technology can speak to
older people, many of whom had never
dreamt that they would get into googling
Planet Earth on a regular basis!
Moose
in the Hoose relies on volunteers over
50, to act as the bridge between these
two worlds, and you will read how
effectively they fill that challenging
role. They appear to relish the
opportunity to expand their own IT
skills, and enjoy sharing them with
people who would otherwise never get the
chance to have webcam conversations with
their friends and families. We’re never
too old to learn something new, with the
right attitude and people to help.
The
City of Edinburgh Council is deservedly
proud of the success of these early
years of the Moose project. It would
not have been possible without the
strong partnership from ACEIT and
RSVP/CSV. Let’s hope that more areas of
Scotland take this on board, so that we
might see every care home resident have
access to IT, just like free bus travel
for every senior citizen. |
