In October 1995 Mark Scott – a 16 year old schoolboy from Glasgow -
left a football match and became the victim of a sectarian murder.
Following Mark’s tragic death, Mark’s family set up the Leadership
for Life Award.
As explained on the foundation’s website at
www.markscottleadershipforlifeaward.org.uk
”‘The Mark Scott Leadership for Life Award’ is a unique and
innovative approach to personal development that brings together
young people from different social, religious and cultural
backgrounds, and trains and supports them as they plan and deliver
community-based projects.
Selected participants aged between 16 and 18 attend a 5 day course
run by Outward Bound at Loch Eil, near Fort William. Here they
acquire skills and confidence that will help them work together for
between four and seven months to complete a project in their local
community.”
As part of the 2007 awards the foundation is hosting the
‘Intergenerational Technology Project’ which is currently bringing
together pupils from St Thomas Aquins and Gillespie’s high schools
in Edinburgh and senior members of our community. ACE IT and the
Edinburgh Silver Surfers are delighted to be participating with ACE
IT’s volunteer tutors, current and ex-learners combining to form the
senior section of the project.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage better
intergenerational understanding and co-operation through the use of
computers. Over a period of three weeks a series of workshops and
discussion sessions will focus on different elements of
intergenerational co-operation including…
• 12th March - The use of technology to construct a
presentation to compare and discuss childhoods of each
generation
• 19th March - Debates where mixed young and senior teams use
the internet to research a given topic area in order to share
their ideas and thoughts on core social issues. For example “for
or against” the following - ID Cards, Conscription or to provide
future funding for the young or old?
• 26th March - Technology based day where individuals will write
e-mails to MSP’s and use smart boards/mobiles

Following the completion of the sessions a full in depth report
on the project will be produced and featured
