For some time now, ACE IT has been
working in partnership with a wide selection of
organisations and agencies in order to generate
opportunities for the creation and development of
intergenerational projects within local communities.
As a result of this process ACE IT
and the Edinburgh Silver Surfers have recently become
involved in raising the profile amongst older members of
our local community of one of Gorgie’s most successful
community based initiatives.
Founded during the early 1980’s – Gorgie City
Farm has long been a popular resource for families with young
children. However, what is less well known is the wide range of
resources and opportunities the farm offers to all age groups -
including the over 50s.

Following a special guided
tour by invitation of the farm’s education team, the Edinburgh
Silver Surfers were recently motivated to produce an article and
photo review for their website outlining the services and
attractions of Gorgie City Farm. A printed version of the article is
also featured in the March edition of the area’s
local newspaper ‘The Gorgie Dalry Gazette’.
This original meeting also
brought together a number of suggestions concerning how ACE IT and
Gorgie City Farm could work together in the development of
activities and initiatives aimed at bridging the generational
divisions within our local community.
