March 2006: Scotland on
Film pays a visit to ACE IT
BBC Scotland’s acclaimed Scotland on Film series has returned to
television screens this month for a fourth series. To complement the
series, BBC Scotland’s interactive team are visiting various
communities across Scotland to demonstrate how people can make their
own contributions to the website and join the online community.
This week they visited ACE IT’s computer training centre at
Caledonian Crescent where they joined the Edinburgh Silver Surfers,
learners and volunteers in demonstrating the web site and
encouraging folk to share their own stories and memories of life in
Edinburgh. Some really interesting stories can be found at
www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/history/scotlandonfilm
This
follows on from ACE IT’s People’s War Group sessions that were held
at Fountainbridge Library recently, whereby ACE IT’s technical
volunteers demonstrated how to salvage old photos and scan some
important documents from the war. Souvenir CD ROMs were specially
produced by ACE IT to give away to the participants.ACE IT has
built a special web site dedicated to the People’s War Group:
Here
The People’s War Group generated a lot of interest with some very
rare footage of still photos and documents. There is a lot more
information that ACE IT needs to digitise and archive so that these
memories are not lost forever...
...However, ACE IT needs to find funding or sponsorship to
catalogue this unusual collection of stories - photographs… All
offers welcome!! |
